destination that pays homage to namesake and Founding Father, Ben Franklin, it is dra- matic museum space where planners can translate their dreams into magical meet- ings amid grand halls, an avant-garde wing and Tuttleman IMAX and Musserman Demonstration theaters.


The detail person who makes this happen is Gina DeGiovanni, event manager for the Franklin Institute. “We are regularly called on for fund raising events as well as corpo- rate gatherings, and we work with groups to stage meetings and events for guests rang- ing from five up to 5,000.”


Earlier this year, an orthodontist associa- tion hosted its convention for national and international members at The Franklin Institute. One of the highlights was a series of panel discussions held in the facility’s theater. “We made wireless translation headsets available to international guests,” notes DeGiovanni, “allowing them to hear the lectures in their own language. In addi- tion to this component, there was breakfast and a casino-themed reception in Franklin Hall, complete with authentic roulette, craps and poker tables.”


A non-profit organization held a 600-per- son fund raiser at the museum featuring a motorcade of more than 20 antique cars that circled the venue. The collection of privately owned classic and vintage auto- mobiles and motorcycles were displayed as works of art and reported on by CBS news. One notable plus was the use of BidPal, is a system that lets guests electron- ically bid on auction items through iPads. “This way they can see up-to-the-minute updates, which makes process more instan- taneous and competitive,” DeGiovanni.

A fund raiser for Ryan Howard’s founda- tion, Stand Up for Literacy, took place in Franklin Hall and combined live and silent auctions with stand-up comedy. As part of its ‘Weather Partnership’ with local CBS Channel 3, forecaster Kathy Orr conducted an educational event focusing on WeatherBug schools, equipment and proj- ects. “We coordinated with our curatorial department to showcase meteorologist James Espy, who worked at the Franklin
