Technology News

Visit Baltimore has launched a first-of-its-kind app to give meeting plan- ners unprecedented access to the city’s resources. The Baltimore InSite app transforms a large database of photos, attractions, and meeting venues into a three-dimensional mapping tour that can be eas- ily accessed by meeting professionals researching and booking con- ventions and meetings in the city. Available free for iPad2 or greater, Baltimore InSite caters to the needs of any meeting professional in a tech savvy way.

“We have spent more than a year perfecting this online tool to provide meeting planners with an extensive summary of Baltimore’s event spaces and attractions, including images and booking options,” said Tom Noonan, president and CEO, Visit Baltimore. “What began as a presentation by a Baltimore architecture firm to illustrate new develop- ments in the city has emerged as the ultimate tool for meeting profes- sionals. We are proud to be the first destination to offer such a com- prehensive tool."

Baltimore InSite captures downtown Baltimore and nearby neighbor- hoods street-by-street and building-by-building. Meeting professionals can explore the Baltimore Convention Center floor-by-floor, see how many hotels would be needed to assemble a room block, find a venue, and learn more about restaurants and private dining facilities.

Once meeting professionals have selected a particular property, muse- um, attraction or restaurant, the app provides a web link to that venue’s homepage, a detailed description, a selection of images, a summary of the meeting space or private dining facilities, and a map with the direct location. The app can be used to visually demonstrate the walkability and locations of hotels and venues to key decision makers who per- haps can’t travel to Baltimore before weighing in on a destination deci- sion, as well as by attendees once they arrive in Baltimore to navigate their way around town.
