The largest property and conference center in Montgomery County is the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, which features 447 guest rooms and more than 50,000-square feet of event space. Located in Bethesda, it is adjacent to the area’s Metro system and offers easy access to Rockville, Maryland, Washington, DC and Northern Virginia.
In addition to numerous hotel options, the county also is home to a variety of unique venues, and group and private dining experiences.
One such example can be found in downtown Silver Spring at the American Film Institute (AFI) Silver Theatre and Cultural Center. The the- ater is anchored by the restoration of the historic 1938 Silver Theatre, which houses three theaters that are avail- able for rental with seating for 400, 200 and 75 guests respectively. AFI offers exceptional technical facilities, including high definition digital cinema video projection, broadcast quality video recording and distance learning capabilities via satellite. Surrounding AFI are more than 200 restaurants, cafés and markets offering a variety of cuisine.
The Fillmore is located immediately across the street from AFI in down- town Silver Spring. This new perform- ing arts center is home to live musical performances of both local bands and nationally recognized artists. It offers exceptional space for special events, concerts, receptions, private events, corporate meetings and more. Also, catering and in-house production are available. The reception capacity is 1,100 for the whole house. For an intimate gathering of very important guests, the venue also offers a swanky VIP lounge, which can hold up to 50 people.
In Rockville, Glenview Mansion is a pil- lared, neo-classical 19th century home situated within the 153-acre Rockville Civic Center Park. The mansion is

rented out for business meetings, con- ferences and private social events.
The Rooftop is a premier outdoor venue set overlooking the bustling Rockville Town Square. Included in the rental of The Rooftop is the sec- ond floor Buchanan Event Room at VisArts. The Rooftop is a perfect place for a cocktail reception over- looking downtown Rockville, while VisArts unites a beautiful building with fantastic art and artists to create a remarkable space in which to hold a special event. Its spacious interior, excellent acoustics and lighting, cater- ing kitchen, gallery and resident artists’ studios make this an exquisite event site. Rental of the Buchanan Event Room includes the Artist Concourse and the Warming Catering Kitchen, a 2,500-square foot space with floor-to-ceiling windows on two full walls and a capacity of up to 275 for a reception.
Just steps from Metro’s Red Line in North Bethesda, the Mansion at Strathmore has been a favorite for years for private affairs, holiday parties and weddings. Adjacent to the man- sion is the new Music Center at Strathmore, which welcomes a variety of events and concerts with seating for 1,976. It is available for rental to private parties, black tie galas, corpo- rate meetings and television broad- casts.
Discovery Sports Center is a 66,000 gross square foot indoor facility avail- able for conferences, trade shows and other events.
In Gaithersburg, the Montgomery County Agricultural Center, Inc. pro- vides additional choices for meetings and events. At the agricultural center, The Heritage building offers spacious accommodations for ceremonies, receptions, parties and business meetings. In addition, its 5,000- square foot Harvest Room can accommodate up to 350 guests with space for dancing, while the Garden
Room holds 150 guests comfortably. A retreat venue, The Bolger Center features a campus-style setting that creates an inviting atmosphere for both the business and leisure traveler. Located 15 miles from the White House, the hotel and conference cen- ter is close to regional airports, the nightlife of Bethesda, as well as to upscale shopping. The center features 75 spacious meeting and event rooms for groups up to 400, dedicated meet- ing planners, catering, meeting pack- ages and more.
Bretton Woods is an ideal setting for corporate or private events. Its facili- ties are just 15 minutes from the Capital Beltway in a parkland setting with 285 acres of scenic views, an 18- hole golf course overlooking the Potomac River, and a comfortable clubhouse atmosphere. Also on site are activities like tennis, volleyball, basketball, soccer and swimming facilities.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission manages several facilities that provide a unique environment for retreats, meetings and conferences. The Lodge at Little Seneca Creek offers a rustic setting in the woods. This log cabin near Germantown features oak floors, flag- stone fireplace and a spacious desk with spectacular views of the park- land. In Potomac, the Rockwood Manor in Rockwood Manor Park has several meeting rooms for groups from four to 100. The Skyview Lodge and Carolyn Cottage provide overnight accommodations for 24 guests, along with three dormitory-style facilities.
Brookside Gardens offers an ideal set- ting for business meetings with a choice of venues ranging from class- rooms to its reception hall. The hall can accommodate 175 people lec- ture-style, while the classrooms are available for breakout or small meet- ings or training sessions for groups of up to 50 people.
