spotlights for banquet use surround each of the discs. These can be set at defined levels for public use and lowered to the ground for rigging and maintenance. In between the discs hang dynamic decorative chande- liers, dubbed Oyster Lights, comprised of LED back-lit colour changing panels viewed through arrays of Swarovski crystal. This ar- rangement allows the room to be colour set and balanced with the back-lit discs. The Oyster Lights themselves are motorised, en- abling them to silently rise, lower, open and close to suit the requirements of the hall. Individually controllable, they can each be set to different heights or altered en masse using a pre-programmed lowering sequence. The chandeliers span five metres when opened and offer a helpful way of lowering the perceived ceiling height in order to cre- ate a more intimate dining experience. metres. The room is lit in exhibition mode by a series of motorised square light trusses housing a full production lighting rig. High bay discharge lighting above the production rig is used for general lighting to enable the ‘get in / get out’ of exhibition trucks and equipment. A series of foyer areas run the full length of the building. Fronted by a full height glass wall, these are fully visible from the exterior and the lighting within them plays a significant role in creating a nighttime identity for the building. Commandé par la Fondation du Qatar dans le cad- re de lu développement de la Cité de l’éducation de Doha, le Qatar National Convention Centre dis- pose d’installations de pointe d’un design iconique (basé sur l’arbre Sidra - traditionnellement un lieu de débat et d’apprentissage). Le bâtiment abrite dix salles polyvalentes pour accueillir le public et
les conventions régionales, des conférences éd- ucatives, des concerts et des récitals. Avec 40.000 m2 d’espace d’exposition disponible, il est en passe de prendre une grande visibilité, celle d’une destination de prestige pour des expositions mon- diales, des banquets et des événements nationaux présidentiels. Au Royaume-Uni Light + Design As- sociates, dirigé par Lee Prince, ont été amenés à développer un système d’éclairage pour le projet. Leur mission consistait à s’engager pleinement avec la nature multi-usage des espaces différents à travers le centre, y compris toutes les salles et le Foyer VVIP exceptionnellement élevé - également utilisées pour diverses expositions et des spec- tacles. Les systèmes d’éclairage sont tenus non seulement d’améliorer et de compléter la fonction des bâtiments, mais offrent un stand sur pièce de l’éclairage architectural, ce qui en fait du centre un phare régional.
