East Cornwall Hunter Trials Saturday 8th
September saw the inaugural East Cornwall Hunt Hunter Trials on a newly built course at Port Eliot, St Germans, by kind permission of Lord and Lady St Germans.
The weather was ideal for the opening of the course, designed by West Country international event rider, Tamsyn Hutchins, and constructed by ECH Master Graham Higgins and his dedicated team. 203 competitors entered 6 classes ranging from 2’3” 12 years & under to 2’9-3’ open. The course rode very well, on near perfect going. The fastest time of the day of 4 mins 36 secs and was ridden by Shakira Duffy on Raidy, winner of the 2’3” Open.
Spectators saw some very fierce competition in the 2’9-3’ Open class with the winner Natalie Moore riding Toya Casino Royal, with a time of 4 mins 45 secs, Natalie also won the 2’6” Open. In hot pursuit of the open winner was Sarah Higman riding Sky’s the Limit with a time of 4 mins 46 secs.
The ECH supporters are appreciative of very positive feedback from competitors, both on the day and by way of email and comments on the ECH Face Book page, says secretary, Samantha Ackford. They have found it very encouraging when Graham and his team have put in so many hours of hard work and commitment.
The next Hunter Trial at Port Eliot is scheduled for May 2013; competitors will be able to look forward to additional fences. All enquiries to the secretary at
