Emma Pearce from Stretcholt, Bridgwater, became a double Champion at the Arena Eventing Championships of Great Britain, held recently at Cricklands. Riding Tyler, she captured both the 2’9” and the 3’0” sections while Jacqui Hutton from St Austell took the 3’3” Championship and Reserve on Heartbeat and Jack respectively.
In the 2’9” Championship Emma kept a clean jumping sheet to finish on her dressage score of 32.0, a mark she repeated in the 3’0” Championship but here she added four penalties on the cross-country section to complete on 36.0. Alexandra Broome (from the David Broome Event Centre) tied with Emma in the dressage but added eight penalties cross- country to finish Reserve on Barons Mini Me.
Jacqui was awarded the same marks for both her horses in the 3’3”
class dressage (35.5) but while Heartbeat jumped clear cross-country and show jumping, his stable companion, Jack, added eight penalties to his score during the middle phase to complete on 43.5.
Tomos Daniels from Llanarthe,
Carmarthenshire, led after the dressage and cross- country phases in the 2’3” class but a single fence down in the show jumping relegated him and Bounty to third place, allowing his brother, Lewys to take the Championship on board
Petit L’Orage. Both Lewys and Reserve Champion Catherine Stidwill (Redruth, Cornwall) finished on their dressage score, Catherine just one penalty adrift on Oldacres George.
Jo Tarling from Eaton, near Leominster, made up for a disappointing cross-country in the 2’3” class to win the 2’6” Championship on Blue Eyed Boy. She improved on her earlier dressage, scoring just 23.5, and jumped clear in the cross-country and show jumping to finish
