Deer Park Introductory to Hunting Day
Deer Park Cross Country near Brockhampton in Cheltenham hosted an Introductory to Hunting day on Sunday
October for riders who had never been hunting or for Horses who had never tried the experience. The day was held by kind permission of the Masters of the Cotswold Hounds who were fortunate with the weather enjoying wall to wall sunshine throughout.

Sarah Cook from Deer Park addressed the riders first thing, giving some useful tips before the Hounds arrived. As on all hunts the stirrup cup and nibbles were passed around allowing the horses new to Hunting a chance to get used to the noises of the Hounds and nervous riders to get used to groups of horses etc.
Around 10.30am the field set off at a steady pace around the roads and tracks surrounding Deer Park a great time was had by all who rode out with the Cotswold Hounds after returning to Deer Park the Hounds were boxed up and a few of the braver riders enjoyed an escorted jump, hunting style over the fences ranging in height from 1ft to 3ft 6in, there was also the option to enjoy some open ditches and go through the water and open and shut a gate, enough to get horse and rider ready to try a real Hunt in open country.
At the end of a great morning, there was hot bacon rolls, homemade cake, tea, coffee and hot
chocolate for all.
The Masters very kindly offered to give any of the participants a voucher to use for a free morning’s Autumn Hunting with the Cotswold Hounds to be used on a weekday morning before their Opening meet
Sarah Kingscott enjoyed herself so much that she requested to take up the invitation for a mornings hunting and sent an Email to thank Sarah and her team for providing a great day.
Sharon Wilson was another happy rider. Sharon contacted Sarah after the event to say how much she had enjoyed it and thanked her for such a well organised, fun day.
