Bicton Arena played host to the second round qualifiers for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships over the weekend of Saturday 15th

and Sunday 16th September.

The finals will take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November.

Saturday saw Rachel Davis from TonyPandy in Mid Glamorgan fly round the 1.15m jump off to secure first place with a double clear in 39.90 seconds on her nine year old mare Don’t Touch, in fact no one could touch her, second place went to local rider Jenny Spiller from Exeter on her 14 year old chestnut gelding Robbie IV with a double clear in a time of 45.23 seconds, third and fourth went to Mackenzie Sanders from Gloucestershire riding Parkview Quintender who jumped a double clear and Vampire III who picked up four faults in the second round. The last qualifying ticket went to Suzanne Noder on Cash Copper who also collected four faults in the jump off.

In the 1m qualifying round on Sunday Cornish teenager Abbey Jeffery from Penzance came up trumps riding her own chestnut mare Morene Manciaise, Jasmine Abraham from Hampshire finished in second on Maxwell II with Phillipa Barbour from Barnstaple putting up a good fight scoring a double clear on Anthony Hartnoll’s ten year old bay gelding V Kalies. Twelve had made it through to the jump off and with six riders on four faults time was the deciding factor.

Lots of other classes took place at the show Julian Preston went along and captured some of the action in the junior classes and some of the more experienced riders warming up for action in the qualifying classes.
