and finished in second place.
Cornwall
Jordan Pooley from Launceston in Cornwall had been trying for five years to qualify for HOYS and to her delight managed to qualify in two classes with the same pony on her debut appearance. Jordan rode Baylew St Patrick, who used to belong to the Lobb family, in the Topham Barnes 122cms Show Hunter Pony on the Saturday and the Lego Mini show pony of the year on Sunday where she got through into the top eleven. Jordan qualified at Chard and the BSPS Wales championship show.
Keith and Maureen Day from Redruth had the crowd cheering them on all the way in the Osborne Refrigeration Scurry Driving where they took part on most days, their hilarious round in the Osborne Hurry Scurry, where a show jumper and race jockey jumped horses loaned by the House Hold Cavalry then leapt on the back of the scurry cart to negotiate the cones was absolute brilliant. Keith and Maureen teamed up with Belgiums NicolaPhilippaerts and Andrew Thornton to finish fifth.
The curtain closed on the 2012 Horse of the Year Show following an extra special finale. Olympic Team Gold Medallists Peter Charles and Scott Brash along with Paralympians Sophie Wells, Lee Pearson, Natasha Baker, Sophie Christiansen and Deborah Criddle entered the arena to roars of applause raising the roof in recognition of the successes at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Then, after a parade of three equine icons – the leading sire of Clyesdales, Collessie Cut Above; Kellythorpes Leading Sire Awards winner Kilvington Scoundrel and 2012 John Smith’s Grand National winner Neptune Collenges – Brian Blessed took to the stage to read the famous Ode to the Horse. Brian’s wonderfully sonorous voice brought the house down and echoed through the thoughts and minds of everyone as they reflected on an exceptional Horse of the Year Show.
