WHAT’S ON OFFER IN 2012 FROM THE BIG AUTUMN EUROPEAN SHOWS ?

Anyone looking ahead to the big European autumn trade shows for an early glimpse of what 2012 has to offer will find the answer in water quality and energy saving innovations.

1 Investment and promotion into the industry’s holistic approach with more emphasis than ever on wellness and better organised display sectors.

2 Moving the congress and speakers into new areas to promote the medical benefits of owning a pool. More lectures on wider health benefits and research companies can use to influence customers.

3 More emphasis on natural pools, building and maintaining them.

4 Targeting decision makers and putting more attention on public sector problems and solving them.

5 New international programme of PR and press conferences.

“The European swimming pool market has suffered badly in the last five years. It is only this year that France and Germany expect to see growth after five years of recession. The trends are now more towards renovation rather than original building and that has seen the influx of more products to create better value for those owning pools. We have put our marketing focus on these areas,” said a spokesman from interbad.

Decision makers, operators and experts from both the public and private sectors are key to these big European events. In addition to the

managers of swimming pools, sauna facilities and thermal spas, architects, planners and consultants, owners and managers of swimming pool construction and retail companies, physiotherapists and decision makers from fitness studios and sports centres are all invited with campaigns targeting their area of interest and expertise.

CAN POOL INDUSTRY HELP WITH STRESS?

A special ‘corporate health’ area is being launched aimed at seeing what the pool and spa industry can do to help stress issues in individuals. A growing pressure to perform in the job is causing psychological stress and burnouts among many employees and costing companies a great deal of money. Exhibitors from occupational medicine, professional associations and health insurance companies provide information on the options for occupational prevention. The target groups are managers of hotels, thermal spas, baths and pools, physiotherapists and managers from companies. spn

Four new low chlorine and chlorine- free products will be seen in both Stuttgart and Lyon in October and November as bigger players invest in testing the trades’ appetite to continuing finding alternatives to traditional chlorine products. There is a feeling that finally some progress is being made to get a fairer balance between the safety standards begin asked of new chlorine-free products and traditional chlorine by the regulatory authorities.

New quieter salt chlorinators will also grow the trend away from the standard use of chlorine in pools.

Other new products being lined up for the two big shows include new one- piece pools and a further influx of new heat pumps.
