cellular level and, when coupled with chlorine treatment, the SwimLine provides a highly effective second barrier against infection by chlorine-resistant microorganisms such as cryptosporidium.

The SwimLine contains features designed to reduce operating costs by eliminating wasted power and materials. Power Stepping™ technology is included as standard, and allows facilities to cut power consumption by limiting operation to only what is needed to maintain the required de-chloramination level. The system’s controller provides continuous UV monitoring to alert for low UV, power failures or other changes.

UV specialists Hanovia now say commercial pools see the ultraviolet system as the only answer to long term water treatment

CERTIKIN’S EXCLUSIVE UV SYSTEM MAKES COMMERCIAL SENSE Certikin’s Commercial UV System offers pool owners a guaranteed 12,000 hour lamp life, which outstrips any competitor’s product in performance and longevity. With flows from 13m2 up to 850m2, it is suitable for temperatures up to 40°C and reduces chlorine dosage by up to a staggering 80%. It is simple to install and safe to use and very competitively priced.

Environmentally friendly, the system’s UV-C radiation destroys the genetic structure of micro-organisms and inhibits their ability to multiply, rendering them harmless. Bacteria and viruses in water, air and on surfaces are effectively inactivated. Unlike conventional chlorination processes, UV-C radiation eliminates viruses permanently.

A smaller range of units is also available for hotel, school and hydrotherapy use. Certikin also raised the bar with the new 29 range of Calorex pool heat pumps. Produced in Europe to ISO9001-2001 standards, the 629 and 829 models lead the industry in both performance and efficiency.

The range offers proven co-efficient of performance (COP) of up to 5:1. This means the heat pumps can provide up to five units of energy for the pool for every one unit paid-for while at the same time, drastically reducing carbon emissions.

Typical of what can be achieved is The Academy Leisure Centre, in Harrogate, which took delivery of six Calorex Pro Pac 90 units as part of an energy-efficiency drive, and the venue is anticipating savings of about £55,000 per year on heating costs with carbon emission savings of 100 tonnes annually.

Four Calorex Pro Pacs now heat the pool water and warm the changing rooms and other

associated areas. Two additional Calorex Pro Pacs provide hot water for the changing rooms and heating system.

SWIMLINE UV RANGE OFFERS LOWER OPERATING COSTS

UV specialists Hanovia now say their experience is that commercial pools see the ultra violet system as the only answer to long term water treatment. Hanovia’s SwimLine™ UV range provides safe and efficient removal of chloramines from pool water while also acting as a disinfectant. The SwimLine also incurs lower capital and operating costs than comparable UV systems. Water passing through the system is exposed to UV light, which destroys chloramines, the harmful by-product of chlorine disinfection, responsible for strong odours, skin and eye irritation as well as damage to pool equipment. UV light also inactivates microorganisms on a

The Hanovia UVLux™ broad spectrum UV lamps used in the SwimLine range feature the latest technology in medium pressure lamps and optimal efficiency. The system also incorporates an automatic quartz sleeve wiping system that reduces maintenance and extends lamp life. The compact SwimLine is available in a range of U-shape, S-shape and In-Line configurations for easy installation in new-builds or incorporation into existing water treatment systems. One of the most prominent UK installations is Nirvana Spa in Wokingham, Berkshire. Widely regarded as one of the UK’s most prestigious spa facilities, Nirvana has nine pools, each filled with pure spring water drawn from over 200 metres beneath the ground. Each pool is treated with a Hanovia UV system, including the ‘Celestial’ floatation pool, the UK’s largest hydrotherapy pool containing salt imported from Israel’s Dead Sea. Another high profile UK installation is the Riverside Leisure Centre in Exeter, the first leisure centre in the UK to install a UV system. That was back in 1994, when the centre had just undergone a complete refurbishment and a Hanovia UV system was chosen to replace ozone. The Hanovia system performed so well for the
