Certikin’s play features proudly stand at the centre of a £6m refurbishment of Whitley Bay’s leisure centre. Opened in March 1974, it was the first leisure pool of its kind in England. Renamed Waves, the state-of-the-art centre has, at its centre, a Certikin three lane water slide (featuring racing traffic lights to see who can make it down the quickest) and interactive pirate ship. The star attraction pirate ship, called The Rock Hopper, includes mini slides, water squirting geysers and animals (crocodile, pelican and turtle), and a tipping water treasure chest. The equally appealing children’s multi-slide leads into its own splash pool. Both features were conceived and designed by Certikin’s commercial division.
The centre’s Manager, Phil Hunter says: “The galleon is a fun area for our younger customers. Kids love the small slides and the water cannons. The main slide is fast and exciting for children aged six plus and they love the idea that the slide design offers them the opportunity to race their friends. There is no doubt that these new features have been a great attraction for our customers.”

Why do water toys increase the popularity of pools? The answer is simple: If children are happy, their parents feel at ease too. The reason for this is obvious. Little is more exhausting than spending free time with children who are bored and dissatisfied. These animal slides can be used to transform toddler’s pools to little themed areas, for example a jungle equipped with a slide and water spouting animals like the rhinoceros ‘Bubu’ or the snake ‘Super Python’ with its trusting eyes. Children will love it as swimming becomes an adventure for them.
Water animals and water cannons are used for all sorts of play because kids like action. Roigk’s water cannons are made of stainless steel and are very durable.
