A GEEKIE BACK IN THE BUSINESS
New to the H & V division but carrying a family name that has become synonymous with the British pool industry – Certikin is delighted to welcome Jake Geekie.
Those of you whose days in the pool trade go back a little longer than you would care to admit, will remember Jake’s father, Steve Geekie, who set up Pool Gear Ltd back in the 70s – the foundation of Certikin’s H & V division. Steve was the son of Peter Geekie the founding member of Peter Geekie Pools (one of Certikin’s foundation companies). Jake, 21, is spending six months in the H & V division ‘learning the ropes’ as part of his Business Studies degree at Manchester University. Jake says: “It’s great to work in what was the family business and I had never before appreciated just how technical and ingenious heat pumps, Deltas and HRD’s can be! It’s a sharp learning curve but one that I am enjoying immensely.”

SAYS NEW LIW BOSS
The man charged with the responsibility of charting the future of the Leisure Industry Week exhibition at the NEC believes the pool and spa sector will show one of the biggest areas of growth over the coming years. David Sanvoisin previously worked with the LIW show from 2003 to 2008, before being promoted to sector manager in 2006.
Sanvoisin has been tasked with ensuring that LIW caters for the entire out-of-home leisure industry, capitalising and improving on its already strong presence.
Sanvoisin said: “The main target areas for growth are facilities management, and pool & spa, all of which have a great base from previous years at the show but also really represent growth opportunities. There’s a lot going on in these markets in terms of innovation and technology and there’s also a lot of demands being made in these sectors in terms of helping visitors through some tough trading conditions. LIW will put a lot of emphasis on these markets.” Speaking of his history with LIW, Sanvoisin said: “I love the show; having experienced both sides – exhibiting and organising – it has become a big part of my working life. I understand the demands of both parties and am passionate about satisfying them!”
Leisure Industry Week takes place at the NEC Birmingham from Tuesday 18 to Thursday 20 September.
