This program is primarily for graduates of law schools outside the U.S. Students take 24 units over two semesters. Two courses are required: (1) Introduction to American Law, and (2) American Legal Research & Writing for Foreign Lawyers. Students select all other courses from the JD curriculum, concentrating their studies in any area of special interest or taking a broad range of courses.

The LL.M. program (August to May) integrates American and inter- national law students at all levels of study and provides LL.M. candi- dates with a broad curriculum of many different courses. Through the LL.M. program, international law graduates are able to gain thorough knowledge of the U.S. legal system and also have the opportunity to develop special expertise in a particular area of law.

The Summer LL.M. in International Commercial Law provides special- ized knowledge in international business and trade while emphasizing the U.S. legal system in a comparative context. The schedule enables legal practitioners to obtain a master’s degree by attending courses for two to five consecutive summers at the School of Law at the University of California, Davis, and locations abroad.
