During the last half century, public international law has witnessed dramatic growth in terms of subject matter, participants, and day-to-day signifi cance. The Amsterdam Law School boasts a diverse academic community and high-level Master’s programmes dedicated to the theories, policies and practices that defi ne international legal issues in a changing world.
Located in the center of the nation’s capital Amsterdam, a city renowned for its history, charm and originality, the Amsterdam Law School offers programmes that expand upon Dutch traditions of scholarship and innovation. The Master’s Programme on Public International Law offers a wide variety of courses on general international law and specialized fi elds such as human rights, international criminal law and international environmental law. There is a separate track on International Trade and Investment Law. In addition, there is the Research Master in Public International Law, which aims to give students knowledge and
understanding of the fundamental principles of public international law and, in particular, the key areas of the international rule of law, legal science and international legal research. At the same time, students will acquire the skills they need in order to be able to apply their knowledge in these areas to conduct fundamental and applied research in academia or in practice. Graduates of the Research Master may apply for an accelerated, three-year Ph.D. track.
Since its introduction in 2003, our LL.M. programs have continued to expand in prestige and popularity, drawing motivated students from the four corners of the world.
