The program aims to provide a bridge from undergraduate level studies (or equivalent professional experience) to research, focusing on a distinct although relatively broad specialism. The required courses, com- bined with appropriate options, lay a strong foundation in the basics of international human rights and humanitarian law (armed conflict), are of increasing importance today.

The LL.M. covers the operation of international environmental law (IEL) and policy. Knowledge and systematic understanding of the institutional structures, key principles of law and policy and the con- texts in which international law operates is gained through studying the range of perspectives which underlie the substantive areas of law, as well as the practical situations in which IEL operates.

The LL.M. in Law (Erasmus-Europe) provides an exciting opportunity for students to obtain an LL.M. by studying both at Kent and at one of our partner universities in continental Europe, with all teaching conducted in English. Students on the LL.M. study at two highly-rated international law schools, gain an understanding of different legal systems.

The emphasis of this LL.M. has always been upon its relevance to contemporary international problems and events. Taught primarily through a consideration of current international events, this LL.M. will enable you to understand and evaluate public international law and its role, potential and limitations in international affairs. This LL.M. will also emphasize the theoretical bases of international law.

The LL.M. in International Human Rights is the oldest such LLM in the world. It was established in 1983 and has run continuously every year since then, bringing together experienced and superbly qualified students from all over the world. Its professors form the strongest international human rights law team, combining academic excellence with international practice in the United Nations, regional systems and before international courts and tribunals.

Durham Law School offers three well-established LLMs. Two are spe- cialist programs, offering students the opportunity to focus their studies in either International Trade and Commercial Law or European Trade and Commercial Law. The third is a General LLM that gives you the freedom to choose modules from either of the two specialist programs.

The program aims to provide a bridge from undergraduate level studies (or equivalent professional experience) to research, focusing on a dis- tinct although relatively broad specialization. The modules are designed to ensure that students are offered a range of subjects to suit different areas of interest within a coherent whole and with an International and European perspective.
