The common feature of the English masters programs is their innova- tive character. They all aim at the integration of European and interna- tional features in the study of the law. For those seeking to work in a transnational environment and with an open eye to ‘Europeanisation’ and globalisation, the faculty of law is the place to be. The masters in this field are closely linked to the emphasis in the faculty research: the faculty staff is particularly strong in the areas covered by the English taught masters.
This unique LL.M. program offers a forum for high-level postgradu- ate study in public international law, with specializations in Peace, Justice and Development, and International Criminal Law. It offers courses for advanced students and professionals, with lectures by experts from judicial institutions in The Hague and distinguished academics from Leiden Law School.
The Master of Advanced Studies in International Tax Law has been designed to provide in depth training for lawyers and economists who are interested in expanding their knowledge of the theory and practice of international tax law. The courses are taught by teachers of Leiden University’s Faculty of Law, visiting professors from the Netherlands and abroad and distinguished legal practitioners.
The program focuses on various areas of European Law, such as Human Rights, the internal market and the EU’s external relations, both from a substantive and institutional law perspective. It equips students with skills necessary for a career as European Law expert. Students experience the workings of the European institutions in practice during a study trip to Strasbourg, Luxembourg and Brussels.
The LL.M. programme in Public International Law challenges stu- dents to develop their own views on the role and functioning of law in the international society.

The LLM has a flexible program structure and suits the objective of a number of students to upgrade their skills and knowledge through specialist taught papers, a combination of taught papers with a sig- nificant piece of independent research or those who wish to engage in research only. Study commences in February or July.
