t’s not everyone in the trade who longs for wonderful summers.

The business of pool enclosures has been booming in recent years because the traditional British summers have been so disappointing and pool owners want to guarantee value for money from greater use of their pools.

One statistic recently suggested that within a few years 70% of all outdoor pools in the UK could have a pool enclosure over them. That figure may be optimistic but the benefits of all year round swimming and guaranteed safety makes the pool enclosure market appeal to pool owners large and small, private and commercial. It’s significant in what has been a steadily growing market over the past three or four years that new products, new ranges and new models are available for the 2012 season. It’s a sign of a healthy market

which still has a lot of sales potential. If you add in the growing importance of safety which pool enclosures bring then it becomes clear why pool enclosures offer such an attractive option. A pool enclosure of whatever size, shape and cost is a natural cost effective solution. Enclosure specialist companies say the market continues to grow. Last year saw sales higher than the previous year – although more were concentrated at the top end of the market. Enquiries were based on better quality than quantity which is what the industry is looking for. At the top of the market there’s the commercial pool, the school or community outdoor pool which is looking to make the most of their investment by building a designed structure to provide a permanent cover. This sector has been growing strongly and continues

to do so. There’s a real desire for schools especially to make the most of an outdoor pool, save costs and turn it into much more of an asset by providing all year swimming. Suppliers say the market is demanding quality. Pool enclosures now, are becoming more structurally demanding and often tie the client into a lot of building regulations and procurement documentation. Because of this specialist companies have had to step up service levels as enclosures become more architecturally demanding.

A pool enclosure helps to minimise heat loss from the pool water and maintain pleasant swimming temperatures. In addition to helping to keeping the water at an ideal and comfortable temperature the air temperature remains warmer and free from cold draughts. This also reduces
