LUNG PROBLEMS IN COMPETITIVE SWIMMERS Competitive swimmers who train at indoor chlorinated swimming pools may have lung changes similar to those seen in people with mild asthma, according to an international study released in the New Year, although there is no evidence those changes lead to actual asthma. Researchers from the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, from France and Canada compared lung tissue and breathing tests from 23 elite Canadian swimmers, whose average age was 21, to mild asthmatics and healthy people without allergies of the same age.
CREATIVE POOL DEAL IN ST NEOTS
St Neots Town Council is putting the finishing touches to a deal that could see the former outdoor swimming pool site returned to use and merged with – and managed by – an Eat ‘n’ Bowl next door. The town’s swimming pool trust is finalising the
agreement for the building of a new pool which will be financed through the sale of part of the pool site to development partnership for £1.5m.

ATTRACTS NEW BUSINESS ForumPiscine has doubled the number of overseas visitors to the Italian trade show from 23 - 25 February in Bologna. The new exhibitors range from several companies from Spain, France, the US and the UK and there will be a large number of Italian companies exhibiting for the first time. HYDROPOOL UK TAKES EUROPEAN DEALER TITLE FOR 14TH YEAR RUNNING
Hydropool UK has won the 2011 European Platinum award for outstanding sales and customer service for the 14th year running. The company won the European dealer category award and tied with Clair Azure of France for the European Dealer of the year title. There were two other UK success stories on the Portsmouth awards night.
The Pool & Spa Company of Kent won the UK Dealer of the Year and gold award for outstanding sales and customer service. Established in 1998, the Kent specialist hot tub business has become multi award winners with their indoor and outdoor showrooms winning widespread acclaim. Yorkshire Hot Tubs, situated in the old spa town of Ilkley, West Yorkshire won the new dealer of the year and a silver award for sales and customer service. The Yorkshire business is the only exclusive showroom for Hydropool Hot Tubs to service the North of England, and specialises in a quality display of the Self Cleaning Hot Tub range, the Serenity Spa range, the Self Cleaning Swim Spa range and Helo Saunas. They have have a number of dedicated ‘wet- test’ hot tubs available for customers. Other silver awards included at
the ceremony went to Crighton’s Hydropool in Peterborough, A19 Pools and Spas, Hydropool, Scotland and Hydropool, Ireland.
Hydropool UK celebrated their new glamorous UK showroom in Portsmouth with a ‘UK Boot Camp’ style event for dealers from all over Europe. On display were some 14 spas and four swim spas. Hydropool then hosted the gala dinner and awards ceremony up in the Spinnaker tower in Portsmouth which had been exclusively rented for the whole evening with spectacular views over the Solent and beyond. JOINT VENTURE GETS FIRST AIRING AT SPATEX
A new venture between timber frame pool manufacturers Villagio and Niveko, manufacturers and suppliers of polypropylene level
deck pools will be highlighted in Brighton at SPATEX.
The new business ventures will be shown to the trade for the first time and visitors will be able to see a display of both a Niveko level deck display pool as well as the market leading Sunsoka Sport Pool, made by Villagio.
The new joint operation will be
able to provide approved dealers with a ‘one stop’ point of access to a comprehensive range of pool, spa and leisure products including Sunsoka timber frame liner pools, Niveko level deck pools, pool products, cabins and enclosures. The highly successful Sunsoka Pools brand was recently acquired by Villagio Limited who took over manufacturing and distribution in the UK.
A market leader in the wooden pools sector, Sunsoka has benefited from the support of the Villagio management team and with fresh financial investment have been developing sales across its range of pools and cabins.
