NEW CALOREX RANGE HAS THE ‘X FACTOR’

The new and innovative Calorex Pro Pac ‘X’ range, available exclusively through Certikin International, is on the market in time for the 2012 pool season.


Calorex has developed a range of four new heat pumps specifically designed for heating outdoor swimming pools, or swimming pools that benefit from a semi-permanent enclosure to extend the usable period of a normal outdoor swimming pool. The range is designed to provide a single unit selection for virtually all domestic/small semi-commercial swimming pools.


The range’s outstanding feature, an intelligent, electronically controlled defrost that allows the units to operate reliably in air temperatures as low as 5 degrees. This new defrost system, specifically designed for the UK climate, will minimise the time Pro Pac units spend on defrost. This will provide Pro Pac units with exceptional early and late season performance, which is when most demand is placed on the heat pump.


Other features include:


• Easy to operate touch screen control. Pro Pac ‘X’ utilises latest technology touch screen control. The control enables easy adjustment of the pool water set point temperature and clear symbols show the actual swimming pool water temperature and operational status of the unit.


• ‘Smart pool pump control’. This feature enables Pro Pac to synchronise a pool pump to run only when the pool requires heating, significantly cutting down on pool pump running time. This feature should be used in conjunction with a time clock that operates the pool pump for a block period so that minimum pool water turnover rates are maintained.


• Small footprint. Pro Pac range is designed with space in mind. A small footprint provides more installation opportunities around the sides of buildings or in plant rooms.


• Three year limited parts and labour guarantee. Five year guarantee against corrosion of the titanium heat exchanger coils.

A new Chemzyme system from Birmingham-based hygiene and cleaning specialists Chemex International is a new invention designed to cut water costs significantly.


NEW CHEMICAL SYSTEM DRAMATICALLY SAVES WATER COSTS of more than £6,000 a year.


The system uses friendly bacteria to digest the deposits that cause odour and blockages rather than chemicals – and an awful lot of water. Parkwood Leisure, which runs Cardiff International Pool for Cardiff City Council is among the first in the UK to use the system. The devices are dropped into gents’ urinals and can dramatically reduce water usage. In the first six months of usage, the centre is reported to have used 2,507 fewer units of water – equating to a saving of £3,098 or the equivalent


Chemex has developed the simple ‘green’ toilet block that uses natural bacteria and enzymes to keep urinals smell and blockage free and eliminating the need for flushing.


It works without using any water other than for routine cleaning. As well as offering significant water savings, the treatment also addresses some of the problems associated with conventional urinals; namely odour, scale, blockage, and subsequent flooding.


Odour is a problem with waterless urinals with most manufacturers offering a countermeasure, usually in the form of a scented block, stick, pad or automatic air fresheners. In reality, odours are


usually caused by trap leaks or general hygiene problems around the urinals rather than the lack of water. The new system can help to overcome these problems.


Says Chemex International: “It’s not just big businesses that can benefit but smaller ones too. The whole thing works through environmentally- friendly enzymes and there is no need for any plumbing changes – simply drop the block and cage into the urinal and start saving water.”

Humidity control specialists Munters have launched a new free psychrometric calculation tool called PsychroApp designed for the iPhone and iPod touch which is also able to run unmodified on an iPad to give fast and accurate humidity calculations in swimming pools. PsychroApp lets you calculate the thermodynamic properties of moist air more accurately than using psychrometric charts. It provides easy access to calculations such as dew point and grams per kg. All you have to do is enter the temperature and relative humidity, the app will then output the corresponding dew point or grams per kg.


It has been designed to help industry professionals calculate the thermodynamic properties of air and will be seen as a quick test for indoor pool owners and managers.


Munters new tool provides complete psychrometric calculations for – amongst other things – relative humidity and dewpoint, all at the touch of a button.


Psychrometric charts aren’t needed because the PsychroApp can calculate the total, sensible, latent and moisture loads of any process or preservation environment. It works by entering the temperature and relative humidity, upon which the device will output the corresponding dewpoint or grams per kg/grains per pound, providing the insight required for a specific job.
