2012 has opened with a burst of new automatic pool cleaners with improvements to start up systems and on board computers aimed to make for even more advanced cleaning

ust as sure as winter will turn into spring so again the pool industry welcomes the annual arrival of the latest models in the market phenomenon of automatic pool cleaners. The 2012 season is no different.
Automatic and robotic cleaners, colourful with futuristic designs, are an integral part of the efficient way of cleaning a swimming pool and have become one of the most efficient, reliable and popular market sectors in the industry. They have become an almost irresistible purchase for anyone faced with the chore of cleaning a swimming pool private or commercial. These are pool cleaners with built in programmes to ‘remember’ pool shapes, to climb 90 degree walls, and ‘scrub’ walls.
For the 2012 season at least 12 new models and ranges will arrive on the market to add to an already popular list.
Designer Max Salinas told Swimming Pool News: “It is true there seems to be a constant flow of new automatic pool cleaners. I think the reason is fairly simple. They are immensely popular products and there has been developments in technology which have allowed the manufacturers to keep on enhancing their product ranges. For 2012 more products will have different levels of filtration. There have also been some improvements to start up systems which I know has been key to the new AstralPool Max product. simpler and efficient option to ‘map’ a route for the cleaner across the pool floor.” The task of finding a way of collecting every piece of debris in the water efficiently has long been made simple by this colourful collection of automatic, electronic or a suction cleaners which may look futuristic but which are hugely efficient and reliable.
There is a season for purchases say retailers. It starts in March and as the pools start to be ‘opened up’ so the market takes off. The problem is often for the discerning owner how to make a choice of what to buy.
Almost without exception pool cleaners on the market in the UK are reliable and efficient. The critical thing is how hard do you want them to work; what element do you want to be automatic rather than manual and what is the shape of the pool which needs to be cleaned?
