DEMELZA HOSPICE CARE FOR CHILDREN HELPED BY WATERCO
Waterco Europe made a donation to the Demelza Hospice Care for Children charity at Christmas. Demelza provides respite care, short breaks, symptom control and end of life care for children and young people with life limited and life threatening conditions including those having treatment for cancer. “Normally Waterco
posts Christmas cards every year to our customers and suppliers but this year the money was instead donated to the children’s charity Demelza,” comments Tony Fisher, Waterco Europe. “Demelza provide care and support for hundreds of very ill children and the Waterco staff felt that this year a donation to this charity would be a fantastic gift for Christmas and one we believed could be shared by our customers.” For more information see

manufacturers in Australia, has strengthened European distribution by joining their French and Spanish based distributors Monarch salt water pool chlorinators, Monarch Pool Systems Europe and Monarch Pool Systems Iberia. The move gives the business the basis to expand and grow the Davey Pool and Spa Equipment range sold in Europe. MPSE based in Lyon and MPSI in Madrid are the largest independent importers and marketers of salt water chlorination equipment in southern Europe.

MEDICAL EVIDENCE IS HEARTY NEWS FOR SAUNA USERS SAYS DRÖM UK
New evidence supports the view that saunas are good for your heart. Researchers at the University of Toyama in Japan found people with heart problems improved their heart function and the amount of exercise they could do simply by taking saunas five times a week. At the same time, US researchers at the University of Colorado have identified a group of serotonin-releasing cells in the brain that become active when the body temperature rises; serotonin is the brain chemical linked to good moods. Kicki Carlsson-Boyd, Managing Director of specialist sauna and steam room company Dröm UK, says: “This latest research provides further proof and explains why saunas are becoming so popular in the UK.” For a classic sauna in temperatures of 75-90°C and relative humidity of 15-35%, water is sprinkled over hot stones in the sauna heater. A dry sauna, with temperatures of 95- 110°C and maximum humidity of 5%, is an alternative way of bathing, usually only for the more

experienced sauna bather. Saunas fitted with infrared panels add a further health-enhancing dimension. As well as the leisure industry, the number of residential installations in the UK is rising. “Rather than move house, people are refocusing on introducing lifestyle and leisure facilities,” said Kicki.

POOLSAN POOLS WIN INTERNATIONAL AWARDS FOR QUALITY
Two high profile pools using PoolSan, the chlorine-free water treatment have won major awards from customers. London’s One Aldwych Hotel have used PoolSan instead of chlorine since 2008. Their chlorine-free pool is popular with guests and members. So much so that they were voted one of the world’s sexiest health clubs by the influential American magazine Details. Meanwhile the Aman Spa at The Connaught Hotel scooped ‘Spa of the Year’ Award at the glamorous
Quintessentially Awards. The Aman Spa was the only spa with a chlorine- free pool and this won them extra points from the judges on the night. Tatler Magazine also voted The Aman Spa ‘Best London Spa’ with the Watsu treatment, a water based Shiatsu massage which is carried out in their 16m chlorine-free pool, coming in for special praise.
