033 FLUID FORM


The Isometrix scheme for Zaha Hadid’s Roca London Gallery, consisting of a retail store, exhibition venue, meeting space and event venue, demanded a unique lighting design solu- tion. The scheme responds to the fluidity of the interior form, changes in colour, texture and surface finishes and is fully integrated to the interior envelope. A rationalised palate of lamp sources and fixtures has been installed, achieving a holistic consistent solution in terms of lighting equipment, colour and control. To enable the appropriate ambience and atmosphere to be cre- ated, a bespoke spotlight system was designed by Isometrix to respond to the variation in mounting location and architectural details while also providing a connected scheme through the spaces, which can be accurately finessed. Tungsten halogen lamp sources are used to provide the appropriate levels of con- trol in terms of optical distribution, colour rendition, control and colour shift.


Cold Cathode is embedded within the building fabric and integrated into chandeliers that morph from the ceiling plane, revealing the complex curves of the dynamic interior and interplay of materials. Carefully colour matched LEDs are in- tegrated within furniture and millwork to provide visual focus and dimensional depth to the lit effect.


The exterior façade is revealed in contrast to the warm ambi- ence of the interior. Cool colour temperature LED wall washers render the curves of the façade dramatically, creating shadow and impact. www.isometrix.co.uk


DOMINO EFFECT This state-of-the-art production and distribution facility for Domino’s Pizza Group in Milton Keynes, UK features a 140m long translucent wall with coloured LED lighting providing interest and animation whilst also emphasising the linearity of the building. The concept for the facade lighting originated with q2 Architects and was devel- oped in detail by the services engineers Couch Perry Wilks in conjunction with the M&E contractor Walter Miles and Cooper Lighting. The system comprised of a number of vertical aluminum reflector profiles mounted on a structural frame in two sections with 1W Seoul Semiconductor X42180 (Red, Blue and Cool White) LEDs equally spaced along the length. A constant current driver by Cooper drives each half section separately. The drivers are mounted in custom made driver cabinets mounted above and below the relevant sections of the wall. www.q2architects.co.uk
