Junior School Choir Competition Tuesday April 5th 2011

approached Tuesday the 5th. April because this was the day of our first choir competition for the junior schools of Hornchurch and Upminster. Way back in December 2010 we contacted 19 schools in the area and invited them to take part in what we hoped to be an annual event. Our philosophy was that if two schools replied we would have a competition, and we could go ahead. As it turned out we needn‟t have worried because we had replies from nine schools wishing to compete and one school expressing disappointment that they could not compete this year but would like to do so in 2012!

School hall as we needed a space large enough to accommodate over 300 children and staff.

n the day of the competition a group of club members arrived a little early at the

school, intending to assist in setting out the chairs. To our pleasant surprise we found that all was ready for us, and all we had to do was await the arrival of the children. Within a short time the first school arrived to be followed shortly after by a second. We had a competition!

pulled out and another failed to arrive. The three adjudicators were Mrs. Katrina Kawarcinski, a local singer and head teacher, Mr. Ralph Surman-Wells, head of the arts

faculty at Hall Mead School and Rotarian Ray Hare, a fine singer in his own right and a member of our club.
