he Handover Dinner is held annually on the last Friday of June


and is a casual and most enjoyable evening.


his year's dinner held at


the Upminster Golf Club was no exception but there were a few additional surprises this year which made the evening even more enjoyable than usual.


resident John Crowder had the pleasant task of presenting


honorary membership to Colin Freeman, a former member of our club who is unable to continue membership due to business commitments, and Brian Piccolo a Past District Governor of District 1240. We also had the most pleasant company of District Governor Bob


Barclay and his wife Judith, who was attending one of his last functions before he was due to hand over to the new DG Ian Muir.

resident John caught us all out


by giving a speech, a rarity at Handover dinners, in which he


revealed some of the childhood secrets, with photographs provided by Janet Larkey, of incoming President George Larkey including that fashion statement of the late 40's and early 50's - the baggy wool- len swimming trunks. This was ,of course, payback time for John who had been suitably 'stitched up' by George at the President's Lunch!
