and the weather, when Sunday 14th. August came round everything fell into place and all went very smoothly.

fter weeks of planning and worrying about menus, attendance figures, costs

he small but energetic work party of Raj, Gerrie, Norman Brian, George, David

(George‟s son in law) and Michael (George‟s Grandson) soon had the large tent up and for those who did not have to return home to change there were a few minutes when we could sit and watch the chefs setting up their BBQ equipment before the arrival of the first guests.

t was rather cloudy as we worked but the forecast had promised good weather and we were not disappointed.

n glorious sunshine the assembled Rotarians, wives, husbands, family

members and friends were fed with a fine choice of delicious food which once again was prepared by Adele (the chef from the home and her team of Darren and Julie). was great to see so many people at the event and it we were delighted to have so

many Rotarians and friends from Havering East, Dagenham and Gants Hill. A „Brucie Bonus‟ was to have Past District Governor Bob Barkley and his wife Judith join us. PP Norman was very relieved to see the all the guests arrive and once every had ate their fill he was able to relax at bit.

fter the food came the bowls and once again SVP Gerrie Harrington organised

the teams and the order of play. With three rinks going there seemed to be bowls all over the place and Gerrie was to be seen running up and down the field, as fast as his little legs would go, measuring and adjudicating on „disputed „ winning bowls.

s usual the ability to bowl was not a necessity to compete, if anything it was

more of a hindrance, because the uneven field, dips and vagaries of the surface meant the bowls did some funny things! However it was all taken and good spirit and a lot of fun was had by all.

he final, between Ros Ellenby and her sister Sue and Bob and Judith Barclay

was watched by an excited crowd who offered lots of encouragement to the players. In a hard fought and exciting match the winners were Ros and Sue who were presented with trophies (to keep) by President George Larkey.

n his speech the President thanked everybody for coming and offered his

special thanks to Norman and his team (for organising the event) Gerrie for organising the bowls and in their absence Shiraz and Indu for allowing us to use their field once again. The president was unable to present the bouquet of flowers to Indu but Norman very kindly offered to deliver them personally. Unfortunately Adele was missing for the speech and the President was unable to thank her publicly for all her hard work and wonderful food but he did manage to see her and thank her personally later.

fter the quick clear up we all left the field with the „feel good‟ factor and

pleased that another event had gone smoothly.

s one guest said to the President as she left “Rotary does a lot of good for other

people and it is nice to see Rotarians doing something for themselves. I had a wonderful time, Thank You.”
