THE BOTTLE SCHEME IS BACK!

fter a break due to the uncertainty of the continuation of the bottle

scheme, normal service was resumed on Wednesday 13th. July 2011

n the 10th. August Dennis and George managed to distribute over 50 bottles. We know that the members from the other clubs also handed out a lot.

he scheme is obviously still very popular and shows there is a need for it.

On the second Wednesday in each month two members from each of the Rotary clubs of Haver- ing East, Hornchurch and Upmin- ster and Romford do a 2 hour stint at the Queen's Hospital, Romford, where they distribute the little green and white plastic bottles.

Under the banner of 'Message

in a Bottle' the Rotarians explain the importance of completing the form inside the bottle, which lists all the relevant details relating to a persons health (medication, illnesses suffered, Dr's. telephone number,

allergies to certain drugs, next of kin etc.) The bottle containing the information is placed in the refrigerator, and a label with a green cross is put on the door of the fridge and one INSIDE the front door. In the event that the person is taken ill and the emergency services have to be called, the responding per- sons - who are usually aware of the scheme - will then know to retrieve the bottle and it's contents from the fridge and will be able to administer aid in the full knowledge that they have the patient's medical information.
