I

love the walk. I remember the first one I did when I joined the club and

how nervous I was of attempting to walk seven miles .For somebody who spoils his walks by hitting a little white ball around this was a daunting prospect. Having survived that first walk I have since been joined by my grandson Michael who at the age of five did half of the walk. I will never forget carrying him for most of the last mile or so as his little legs gave out and I thought at the time that, if I do not get back soon, my not so little legs will give out.

L

ast year my granddaughter Charlotte walked with us for the first time She

did ask after about half a mile if we were nearly there but by telling lots of lies about the end being just round the corner and that kind man (Jim Haines!!!) giving her chocolate at the half way point she managed to complete the course. This year we will be joined by my youngest granddaughter Jasmine, who is going to do half the route, their dad and one of Michael‟s friends.

O

nce we have recovered from the walk we have Chelmer Bridge‟s

fish night at the Shed in West Mersea quickly followed by a visit to the Ismaeli Centre in South Kensington which has been organised by Liaquat Govani.

he following weekend many of us will be travelling to Canterbury with

our wives to meet up with our German friends from the Hermeskeil and Hunsruck Rotary Club and my thanks go to Eddie Truman, John Kent and David Fell for organising this trip.

ctober kicks off with the District Conference and two weeks later we

will be wracking our brains for the answers to this year's Rotary Quiz. Hopefully the local Junior and Primary schools will support our second choir competition.

A

period of relative calm will follow until we get to the Old Folks Party,

at the end of November, (let us pray we do not get any early snow this year) to be followed a week later by our own Christmas Party. Then will come our Christmas Collections and if I get through all this to the New Year I will be halfway through my term of office and you will be reading the next issue of the Bull To say that I am excited by the forthcoming programme of events (and I know there will be many other things go- ing on) is an understatement.

M Y I

y thanks go to all the officials and members of our club for their

support and hard work and I wish our SVP Gerrie and JVP Ray a happy and successful year of office. I look forward to working with you all and serving you well over the coming year.

our Editor (me) does not have much to say for this issue but I would like

to thank the team of final editor Jim Haines and Publisher Colin Davies for all their hard work in getting this edition into print. Despite the odd blip and worry about deadlines we are gradually getting more organised and efficient and I hope you enjoy this edition of The Bull as much as you say you have enjoyed the others.

hope too you are reading and looking at the web site. Colin is doing a

magnificent job and introducing lots of new ideas. If you do like what you see please let him know and don‟t forget, if you would like to submit an article for the Bull and/or for the web site,

PLEASE DO President George Larkey 3
