he Rotarian of
the year, chosen by the President, was our Honourable Secretary Geoff
Furzland
a popular choice which was enthusiastically
endorsed by the assembled masses. This of course did cause a few problems because the secretary is the one who normally retrieves the trophy from the previous winner and arranges for the engraving. Anyway, with a few white lies and some swift action on the

he final formality of the evening was of course the handover of
the regalia to the incoming President and this was done equally smoothly. The new wearer of the badge of office endeared himself to some of the 'old
Faithfull's by NOT making a long ac- ceptance speech.
ouquets of flowers were presented to Philippa Crowder and Judith
Barclay in recognition of all the support given to John and Bob during their year in office. Shortly afterwards, once the photo shoot was over, the Rotarians and guests left and a new Rotary year was about to begin.
