The Charleston Civic Center Municipal Auditorium offers a perfect stage for concerts, shows, reviews and special events.

Sports enthusiasts will enjoy baseball at Appalachian Power Park, home to Charleston’s minor league Class-A affil- iate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, the West Virginia Power.


Visit the indoor-outdoor Capitol Market, which offers a unique shopping envi- ronment in a historic railway setting. Shop for West Virginia-made items and have lunch or dinner in the market café, or simply relax outside on the porch.


Enjoy shopping at one of 135 stores at the Charleston Town Center Mall, one of the nation’s largest enclosed down- town malls. Dine at Picnic Place or in one of the nearby restaurants.


Historic Craik-Patton House and Ruffner Log Cabin tours are available, and located in the same vicinity as the home of Booker T. Washington, African Zion Baptist Church and Cabin Creek Quilts, which showcases handmade quilts and many other items.


Charleston’s newest attraction for fam- ilies, Southridge Grand Prix Family Fun Center, offers indoor go-kart racing on three tracks, laser tag, a soccer com- plex and a video game arcade.

The Greater Parkersburg region is home to both modern, state-of-the-art meeting and conference facilities as well as exceptional historical locations. For example, planners can choose Grand Pointe Meeting and Conference Center, the historic Smoot Theatre, or the Blennerhassett Hotel. All three are amazing spaces that can comfortably

accommodate around 200 people. Several other area hotels can accom- modate smaller meetings, as well.


The Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center in Vienna is the Mid- Ohio Valley’s largest and newest con- ference and event center with over 12,000 square feet of elegantly appointed space. It also offers ample free, close and convenient parking as well as exquisite on site food services. Just north of Grand Central Mall, it is adjacent to the Wingate by Wydham hotel, which has an additional meeting capacity of up to 42 people on site.


Blennerhassett Hotel in Parkersburg is home to a wide variety of meeting spaces that can be easily adapted to fit any event, whether a small boardroom meeting, a corporate retreat or annual meeting with breakout sessions. Offering a capacity of about 175 peo- ple, this classically designed European- style hotel blends old world charm with modern convenience.


The Comfort Inn Parkersburg-Vienna in Parkersburg has meeting space for up to 25, while the Comfort Suites of Parkersburg in Mineral Wells can host up to 180 in multiple spaces on site.


Also in Mineral Wells, the Hampton Inn can accommodate a meeting of up to 50 people, while the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites has meeting space for as many as 35 attendees.


Located in Cairo, West Virginia's North Bend State Park is home to meeting facilities for up to 80 people in a variety of spaces.


Things to Do


From July 19-23, 2011, the West Virginia Interstate Fair and Exposition will take place at the Fairgrounds in Mineral Well. The fair will features 4-H


exhibits, contests, professional enter- tainment, track events, livestock exhibits, a carnival and more.


From August 19-21, 2011 will be the Parkersburg Homecoming Festival. Taking place downtown, it will feature competitions, events for all ages, a parade, half-marathon, top Nashville entertainment, fireworks, arts and crafts, food concessions and stern- wheelers.


Later in the month, the West Virginia State Honey Festival takes place August 27-28, 2011 at City Park in Parkersburg. The festival promotes the honey industry's sweetness and impor- tance, and will feature entertainment, crafts, a baking contest and children's heritage activities.


Also at City Park, on September 17-18, 2011 the Harvest Moon Arts and Crafts Festival will include its annual juried craft show with over 200 crafters, craft demonstrations, quality food and live entertainment.


Starting the last weekend in September and running through the end of October will be Haunted Parkersburg Ghost Tours. The tours begin at the Blennerhassett Hotel, and are among the most popular and highly acclaimed ghost tours in the nation. Participants will stroll the quaint streets of down- town Parkersburg and listen as the tour guides relate the town's haunted histo- ry paranormal tales. The tour takes about two hours and includes about two miles of walking.


Coming to Parkersburg's Bicentennial Plaza in September 2011 is "Taste of Parkersburg," where visitors and locals can savor the flavor of Parkersburg with food, wine, entertainment and arti- sans. Tasty selections from more than a dozen local restaurants and over 40 different wines will be available.
