Events Worthy

Saturday opened with an excursion to the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort. The sun favored the group for a while as they engaged in a team building exercise on the grounds alongside the Delaware River. The assignment was to paint their Pocono Mountains expe- rience onto alligator board. Planners planned, painted and pieced vignettes together as part of a collective retrospective represent- ing all that is the Pocono Mountains.

A tour of the Shawnee Inn was conducted on foot and by golf carts amid the resort’s 100th anniversary celebration. A show and “judging” of the planners’ earlier artwork commenced during lunch and crafted beer was served up at the Gem and Keystone Brewpub. Shawnee boasts its own handcrafted ales and lagers made on premise in their brewery, ShawneeCraft®.

After lunch, and on the way to Pocono Raceway, the skies opened and down came the rain, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the group, and barely slowed the cars on the racetrack. Pocono Raceway’s “Tricky Triangle” would prove to be a spectacular idea for an incentive package.

Next on the day’s itinerary was Split Rock Resort and Golf Club and a much anticipated cooking demonstration by Chef Alice. Split Rock Resort was not only expansive in layout, but also fully capable of handling this FAM tour while 13 other groups were in house for meetings and events. A well known and bustling resort, Split Rock hosts numerous groups, is close to the major ski areas, produces the annual Great Tastes of Pennsylvania Wine and Food Festival, and houses the very popular H2Oooohh! indoor water- park.

Chef Alice had a terrific sense of humor and was very engaging with the group. Besides teaching cooking classes at Split Rock to a wide spectrum of groups who book at the resort, Chef Alice is completely mobile and equipped to travel to anywhere in the area, capable of assimilating any kind of cultural and ethnic cuisine with any size group.

Dining continued at the celebrated Blakeslee Inn and Restaurant, which hosted the familiarization tour’s closing meal. The Inn’s cozy lounge was the starting place as appetizers made their appear- ance first. Everyone then moved into the main dining room for the farewell dinner. Those in attendance noticed a crowded restaurant with what appeared to be a steady flow of regular patrons - kudos to Blakeslee!

Speaking of which, everyone on the tour became “regulars,” too with each evening of the FAM. The last night was capped off with live music at the Lamplighter Tavern at the Inn at Pocono Manor, a constancy of hospitality from the start of the moment everyone arrived all the way through to the final evening’s nightcap.
