HAVERING EAST ROTARY CLUB To the Rotarians of District 1240
May I, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Havering East, thank all those Rotarians who attended the V-Festival and helped take down tents and collect other camping equipment. The conditions were hardly ideal - we had torrential rain on the Monday and exceptionally strong winds on the Tuesday, but you are all a resilient group of people who would not let the adverse conditions affect your work. In addition, many of you seemed to enjoy the situation and displayed great humour. Nevertheless, through your efforts we collected sufficient camping equipment to enable us to sell to date some £3,000 worth of the items collected after 4 days of sales. A further “Sale Day” will take place on Saturday, 18th
September, 2010 between 10am and 12 noon at the Fairview Storage Company, Rainham.
This year we had a number of youth organisations assisting us, and this certainly helped in that many had experience in packing tents - especially the larger ones. These young people did well, and were given tents as a reward.
Some Rotarians collected tents for their own local charities whilst others collected equipment with members of well known local charities. There are few ventures were so many people benefit. The money raised will go to Rotary Foundation, Essex Air Ambulance and local charities. Any equipment left will be given to Mencap and East London Homeless.
There are few events that embrace every aspect of Rotary, but I would suggest that the V-Festival project is fully representative of every thing that is good about Rotary.
Thank you so much for taking part in this project and supporting the Rotary Club of Havering East.
John Binder President Rotary Club of Havering East
