were surprised to learn from a most interesting talk given to us by Richard Sainsbury that we live close to a huge newspaper printing enterprise. The company is called Newsfax, and they operate from a building on the easterly edge of Ford land in an area called Beam Reach 5 - Industrial Park.

They have a surprising combination of publications which include the Jewish Chronicle, The London Jewish News, Al Quds (the sister paper of the Palestinian's daily paper), The Morning Star, The Socialist Worker and the Beano (I didn‟t know they still printed this –must buy one. When you are printing daily newspapers you can't just stop while you move so Newsfax had to find a location, have a new building erected and equipped so that they could stop production at the old site and simultaneously start production at the new one! This involved mountains of red tape and massive finance, but with the help of MPs, Ken Livingstone, local councillors, the Trade Unions and many, many hours of hard work, the task was accomplished.

Thud's editor was on site for every print run, ostensibly to check for quality, but actually propositioning the printers with offers of modelling contracts…
