District Conference
1st.to the 3rd October 2010

ast year while a mere JVP I attended the
second part of the 1240 District Conference which was held at Orsett Hall. I was so impressed by the standard of speakers and the overall atmosphere of the meeting that I decided that I must attend the 2010 conference which was to be held in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Because I sent my deposit off before December 2009, I was automatically entered for the raffle, the prize of which was a free weekend at the conference and yes you guessed it-I WON!

he journey to the ho- tel was dreadful!
With awful weather and numerous road-works, what should have been a pleasant 2hr. trip turned into a
4hr.plus nightmare. Needless to say I was not the only Rotarian who arrived somewhat fraz- zled.
H
owever Janet and I soon settled into our
room and by 6.45pm we were suitably rested and dressed for dinner. We soon met up with Brian
and Jan and found ourselves on a table with some of the members of Havering East. (They had a party of about twenty).
entertainment was just up my street (a Rat Pack Tribute Group) and it set us all up for what was to be a wonderful week- end.

n Saturday evening we had a Fancy Dress Dinner the theme of which was
films or film characters. With Janet and myself looking like something out of „Halloween‟ we ventured forth and soon met up with a couple of dodgy looking „Men in Black‟.
he evening was absolutely wonderful, with a great band which had everybody
up dancing all night. Our friends from Haver- ing East were great com- pany and it was quite late before we went to bed.
fter the Sunday morning session of
speeches I went and had a swim in the pool and then after a most pleasant lunch with Brian and Jan we all made a way home in much better weather conditions.
anet and I agreed it was a fantastic week-
end and we will certainly be attending next year‟s conference. I can recom- mend it, even if you do have to pay!
