Hornchurch & Upminster Jet‟s off to Berlin

Fri 17th September 2010 I

n the afternoon we had free time and we all went our different ways to discover some

more sights of this fantastic city. We had been staying in the old Eastern part of Berlin where most of the famous old museums and theatres are situated, so it was an opportunity for some of us to escape to the west!

S

ome travelled by bus, some by train and some 'in style'.

For those who didn't get too far west this is the ruin, in West Berlin, of the old church together with the new building and campanile rather like the new cathedral at Coventry but on a smaller scale.

I

n dribs and drabs we gradually returned to our rather fabulous hotel where we posed

for one last group photo before wending our way back to the airport.

T

he rest of the journey was uneneventful, no delays at the

airport (except for a few arguments with officials as to what constitutes a liquid-apparently mascara does, although it didn't on the way out!) none on the M1 or the M25 and none in Parkstone Avenue where we picked up our own cars and went home.

W O

e were all absolutely shattered but in total agreement that the trip

had been a fantastic success.

ur thanks to the organisers on both sides especially Eddie and

John from our club. Story & Photos supplied by George Larkey 48
