51 ROTARY SEES THE FUTURE OF

BRITISH INDUSTRY IN A NEW AND MODERN PRINTING WORKS

A

nd this was no

small outfit – the firm‟s eight presses print over 8 million copies weekly of a wide variety of UK and European

editions of foreign and international newspapers including over 6,000 copies of the Metro every day; they also printed copies of the Financial Times to be distributed to different parts of the UK and Europe, and. nearer at home, the recent copy of our own Borough‟s newsletter „Living‟ which has recently dropped through your letter box was also printed here.

A

ll of this was explained to us by Richard Sainsbury, Head of Administration and

Jon Dyer Sales Manager who accompanied us throughout our visit, displaying a remarkable degree of openness for a commercial firm and who were obviously on very good terms with their small but very efficient workforce. The company has only recently moved the bulk of their work to this new factory from their works at Stratford. Those

members of staff who still lived in the Stratford area but now worked in Havering were picked up by taxi each day and returned to their home the same way.

The managers‟ good relations with their staff applied equally to us their

visitors, thus any question we asked was immediately answered in an open and encouraging way and - always a good sign – supplementary questions were answered immediately. In our visit to Newsfax International we saw the face of modern industry – and with firms like this, then our economic

future is sound – 'let‟s hope all firms are equally able to rise to the dramatic challenges of new technology twinned with our own interesting current economic climate'.
