Hornchurch & Upminster Jet‟s off to Berlin

Fri 17th September 2010

I thought it was too good to be true when all the travellers were at the two meeting points (John Kent's and Subhash Hora's homes) just after 9am,well before the pr-arranged time. Then when we travelled round the M25 and up the M1 to Luon airport without any traffic jams and hold ups it certainly seemed like we in dreamland. There being no point in hanging about the booking desks we proceeded uneventfully through to the departure

lounge. That was when the bubble burst and we read on the information screen that our flight was delayed until 6pm. Now Luton airport is not the biggest and best when it comes to airports so 'boredom' comes nowhere near describing the wait for our flight! We did get some food vouchers but that hardly dented the feelings of frustration! Eddie and John had a couple of problems to solve which took up some of the time, namely contacting our friends from Hermeskeil

and Hunsruck who were ea- gerly awaiting our arrival in Berlin and looking forward to our meal together. Contact was eventually made but with the passing of time all thoughts of a relaxing arrival at our hotel with time for a nice shower and a change of clothes began to evaporate.

T

o help pass some of the time I asked some of the

happy band of travellers to jot down their thoughts and sur- prisingly they were not all negative.

Eventually we did take off and in a very short time we landed at Berlin- Schoenfield airport. where we were met by the ever enthusiastic and organised Hans Rode.

Due to the lateness of the hour It was decided that we should get taxis and go straight to the restaurant where we were to meet out Rotary friends. who by now had already eaten.

A H

fter a quick but most enjoyable meal the formalities began.

ans welcomed officially welcomed us to Berlin and yours truly delivered a greeting from

President John and my own greeting in German. I know the translation was Good because Elke had done it for me but I not so sure about the accent! Still our German friends seemed to understand it and our club members had an English version in front of them.
