Hornchurch & Upminster Jet‟s off to Berlin

Fri 17th September 2010 A O

fter the tour we eventually made it to the famous spiral dome on the roof of the

building but due to the fact that we were running late most of us never got the chance to walk up to the top via the sloping ramp.A major disap- pointment (still it is something to put on the 'to do list' when you return to this fabulous city)

nce we had rounded up the es- capes who had managed to get up

the slope we then had another 'sharpish ' walk, by now we had been on our feet for over four hours, to the river where we were to board a boat for a cruise up the River Spree. At last a chance to get off our feet, to get a drink and some- thing to eat, if you were lucky. Unfortu- nately there was only one poor girl working the bar ,taking orders for both

drinks and food, and delivering them to the crowded tables.

ome hardy fellows went on the top deck but sadly after 5 minutes into

the cruise it pelted down with rain and we had to retreat to the bar where the tired troops were too busy talking, eat- ing and drinking (if you were lucky) and some even sleeping, to notice the won- derful city of Berlin gliding past.

n the evening most of us made our way to the famous FRIEDRICHSTADT PALAST to see a quite spectacular

show .It wasn't to everyone's taste but most people enjoyed it especially the trampoline show which was very different (not your normal bouncing up and down).

reakfast next morning was a special affair (some of us discovered the champagne ) because we had the opportunity to thank Hans Rode, who had popped in to have breakfast and say goodbye, with a special presentation of a bottle of whisky. We were very appreciative of the meticulous way in which he had organised the trip.
