COMPLETION OF STAGE ONE OF HAVERING ROTARY CLUBS‟ GREAT PURPLE PINKY CAMPAIGN

O

n Saturday morning 30th

October Lodge Farm Park saw the completion of stage one of the three Havering Rotary Clubs‟ Purple Pinky Campaign – to plant no fewer than 13,000 purple crocuses around the Borough of Havering - all aimed at raising money to finally abolish polio throughout the world.

R

otary‟s cam- paign is

named after the tiny dab of purple colour on the little finger of every child who has been inoculated against the deadly polio virus symbolised by the purple crocus.

A S

ll this planting has been due to the cooperation of the Borough‟s Parks

and Street Care Departments – not forget- ting the warm support of Havering‟s mayor, Cllr Pam Light - with all three local Rotary Clubs – Havering East, Hornchurch & Upminster and Romford.

tage Two of the project will come in Mid February when the thousands of

crocuses will burst into brilliant purple colour - in Lodge Farm Park, a number of the Borough‟s schools, in the centre of Wennington Village, and in all the large circular metal flower tubs Street Care spread around Havering.

S

o in February,

when the crocuses are in bloom,

the

Rotary Clubs will be asking the people of Havering to

contribute money towards Rotary‟s world -wide push to end the crippling disease of polio still maiming and killing children in the last four countries where the disease in still widespread – India, Pakistan and Nigeria.
