Review of GMS Fashion Headdress Show
On the 30th of June the Year 8 students at Great Marlow School held their annual Fashion Headdress Show. The headdresses were split into seven diff erent categories. These were presented on a catwalk in the school hall, which had been decorated with large white sheets, draped from the ceiling and a PowerPoint presentation stating the categories and groups of the headdresses. Music was played in the background, which suited the category displayed by the many, many models.
At 7:00pm the doors opened to greet the many friends and families that had come to witness the spectacular displays. The show started with many spectacular dances from the dance club, which featured ‘dances through the ages’. After a short pause the show really got started. I was the fi rst model on stage and the atmosphere was very tense however things soon got fl owing and the show went extremely smoothly and eventually it ended with the grand fi nale and all the models gathered onto the stage for the last time and they all got clapping along to the music.
Overall the atmosphere was electric and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.
NEW IMACS IN C2 AND THE RENOVATION OF CLASSROOM AND OFFICE
T
his year there has been extensive investment on ICT provision within the department. For a long time I believed in equipping the pupils with
skills for the creative workplace so we have installed Creative Suite industry standard software on 13 fantastic new iMac computers. This will enable our learners to build skills and knowledge through experimentation in an independent fashion. We will adapt the key stage 3 curriculum to include regular learning on this equipment. In year 9 we will rotate a majority share of the classes to incorporate specifi c project based learning using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and indesign programmes. At key stage 4 we have already seen a huge improvement in the standard of photographic based artwork. A massive thanks to the Governors for the provision of these superb resources.
Mrs Sillwood, Head of Art
On the 30th of June Great Marlow School hosted the annual fashion headdress show. All year 8 students worked incredibly hard all term to produce the hats.
After several periods of rehearsing the show started
at 7pm and proud parents and friends began to enter the hall. The stage was decorated with white sheets draped on main points and corners – this created a serene professional atmosphere. Thanks to the
fabulous GMS Technical team music and lights were used to add to the mood.
To warm up the crowd the Miss Elrick’s dance club
performed several dances. Each dance represented a time period –‘Dances through the ages’. It featured: ‘Maniac’, ‘ Tragedy’ and ‘Get into the groove’.
After the performance the headdresses were revealed. Each headdress fell into 7 categories:
Under The Sea, Venice Festival , Dark, Grisly and
Gruesome, Chinese New Year, Tribal, Potential Of Waste, Caribbean Carnival.
In the same order pupils modelled hats and walked up and down the catwalk. Some models were accompanied by their teammates. The music and
lighting was changed for each category. At the end of the show all models did a fi nal run through and the
audience and models were clapping and encouraging the models. Once settled Mrs Wilson announced the winners of each category.
It was an amazing night and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
