SHAKESPEARE SCHOOLS FESTIVAL TWELFTH NIGHT
T
wenty-Two committed Able, Gifted and Talented Drama
students have been working very hard since March in rehearsals, preparing for a one-off performance of Twelfth Night as part of a national event Shakespeare Schools Festival. They will be performing a thirty minute adapted version of the play at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead on Thursday 14th October 2010.
The comic play centres on a pair of twins who are separated in a terrible shipwreck and explores the universal theme of love from many diff erent angles. As part of this challenging project students visited the Bristol Old Vic to take part in a workshop with a National Theatre actor and to watch a production of the play.
As part of the annual DRAMA SHOWCASE on Wednesday 14th July, starting at 7pm, students will be performing a short extract of their performance as a taster. The DRAMA SHOWCASE is always a
popular school event so please ensure you get you tickets as soon as possible. Details about how to come and support the AGT students at Norden Farm in October will be available in September.
“In October this year, some Year 8 and 9 AGT Drama students will be
performing an adapted version of Twelfth Night at the Shakespeare Schools Festival at Norden Farm in Maidenhead. I have really enjoyed drama in Great Marlow and was delighted when Mr
Dunnington asked me whether I wanted to take part in a Drama AGT project. Mr Dunnington told us that we would be doing an adapted version of the play Twelfth Night. I knew nothing about the play and was eager to fi nd out more. The fi rst month of the drama rehearsals were spent studying the script and
acting out particular scenes. I found this aspect interesting and useful because I got to study the scene in detail and try to work out what some of the diffi cult Shakespearean language meant as well as interpret the scenes in my own way. It was also good to learn about the characters in the play and fi nd out what sort of people they are. In May, auditions were held for main characters.
The play is now cast and I am lucky enough to of been cast as the role of Maria. I really enjoy playing her because she is nothing like me and I like to develop her character, according to the sort of a person I think she is. Mr Dunnington has made the project really fun
and engaging. He has brilliant, creative ideas and I enjoy hearing about how he interprets the play and characters. I cannot wait to perform and see the fi nal production come together. “
