CRICKET T
his Summer has seen the Great Marlow Cricket
Squad grow even further following Mr Thomspons good work during Summer 2009. Across year 7 and 8 the numbers have steadily increased each week with up to 35 students turning up each Monday after school to learn new, and fi ne tune existing cricket skills. As a result of this level of commitment we have played several friendly fi xtures with students from years 7 - 10 against local schools. The strong rivalry seen in rugby against Beaconsfi eld continued with the cricket fi xtures. A very close 8 run victory for the Year 8 was the most outstanding match of the year. As always the team were ably led by Sam Buckfi eld. Excellent fi elding and bowling from Will McAuley, Marus Keenlyside Macdonald, and Alfi e Spriggs led to some very promising results.
ROUNDERS ARTICLE E
very Monday this term Miss Parkes, Miss Bennett and now Ms Lovell have been running an after school Rounders Club for all years. Next
year there has been a structed league planned for the Wycombe District Schools mainly due to the GMS girls enthusiasm towards the sport. As a result this year we have only been able to play a few friendlies against other schools. The Year 10 girls have played matches against Pipers Corner and Borlase as well as entering a local tournament hosted by Borlase School.
The Year 7 and Year 9 Girls have played matches against Borlase and Pipers Corner respectively. The girls have had mixed fortunes but have performed exceptionally well and shown massive progress. Here to looking forward for next years league!
DANCE T
he SWB School Sports Partnership organised a Dance Evening at Wycombe Swan in early July. A selected number of year 9 - 11 students
took part in the event and performed a 3 minunte long piece under the choreography of Dance teacher Katy Kobie. The event saw Dances from a number of local schools including Wycombe High, Sir William Borlase and Sir William Ramsay.
TENNIS FOR ANYONE? W
e have introduced a Tennis club this term and have over 10 students every week ON A FRIDAY AFTER SCHOOL.
The students have made massive progress and one could yet be the next Andy Murray. Currently there still isn’t a student that can cope with the pace of Mr Goodright’s serve (when it goes in) or Mr Dean’s shot accuracy, so come and get involved, we need the challenge.
