DANCE CLUB ROUND-UP
he popularity of Dance Club has once again grown this year and I am proud that so many students across the year groups work together in such a pleasant atmosphere after school.
T
Since the start of the academic year we have completed a variety of pieces of various genres and styles. In the autumn term we started by looking at the updated Fame score and composing group pieces on this.
In the spring term we were asked to perform at the Cascouture Fashion Show and developed a piece that was inspired Rambert Ballet’s Company and produced our own contemporary version of Feeling Good. Now in the summer term we have switched our focus and have based our work on a satirical look at changing social dance styles.
Finally, due to the size and range of ability in the club, I would like to acknowledge and thank the Year 11s who completed their Dance Leaders Award with us but also helped me immeasurably with the running of the club throughout the course of the year. I am very much looking forwards to the continuing success of the club next year.
Miss S Elrick NATIONAL SPORTS WEEK T
his was held the week commencing 28th June. The idea behind this National initiative is to raise
the profi le of sport through allowing the students to experience activities that are diff erent to those delivered during mainstream curriculum time, This was both recreational and competitive. Intra class competitions in PE lessons took place and we also held intra-form competitions during lunchtime. Activities including Tug Of War, Rounders, and Ultimate Frisbee.
To ‘kick off ’ the week the PE Department created a thought of the week presentation for all tutor groups to undertake, and an optional quiz for all students that was used during form time.
The week was rounded off with the Great Marlow School Annual Sports Day, a perfect way to end such an inspirational week for our students. During the day and in the pre-sports day events programme, many long standing school athletics records have been broken and in some cases smashed by our up and coming talent. Despite the heat on the day all competitors worked hard towards their house totals in the
4 way battle for the number 1 slot for this massive event. For the fi nal part of the competition, the whole school came out to support their houses. As you can imagine the atmosphere was electrifying as 1000 plus students cheered for their fellow house members as they competed for victory in their events.
The PE department would like to thank all the students for their superb support and behaviour during this whole school event, as well as all of the staff who helped co-ordinate and run the event.
