SOME QUESTIONS FOR GEORGINA:

Question: What do you do to unwind at the end of a long day?

Answer: We live in Grouville, just a few minutes from the beach, so we take the dog for a walk before the children go to sleep. My husband and I get time to catch up and play with the children whilst enjoying the beauty that Jersey has to offer.

Question: What do you like most about being in Marketing? Answer: I adore the variety. No two days are ever the same and in one day I can be dealing with so many different initiatives - from photo shoots, to writing articles, to meeting clients, hosting seminars, working with our design agency, meeting suppliers and managing e-mails. I love the people element of the role, meeting and liaising with people all the time and the fact that even though I work in an office it is not totally office based.

Question: What do you most dislike about being in Marketing? Answer: It is a tough environment in the financial services sector. A lot of people don’t understand marketing and therefore cannot understand the value of it. However, if you can measure results and back up your proposals with facts and analytics there should be no issue introducing new ideas.

call is to Citizens Advice Jersey as we are

hosting a lunchtime seminar with them on the recently introduced Discrimination Law.

My last meeting of the morning is with Andy Le Seelleur who is Trustee of the charity WetWheels Jersey. They fund a catamaran that allows disabled and disadvantaged people in Jersey to experience the thrill of being at sea on a safe and reliable vessel. The charity offers adults and children alike the opportunity to enjoy activities that are normally out of their reach, such as fishing trips and exploring the coast. WetWheels Jersey was our 2015 corporate charity and we worked closely with them through the year. I usually meet with them once a quarter to catch up on various initiatives and areas of support.

Lunch is a 30-minute spin or PT session (I am trying to lose my baby weight as I had a little girl a year ago!) then back to my desk for the afternoon. Importantly, I need to contact clients and invite them to an event we are hosting in London. I also need to write an article on the funds team at Voisin and finally I need to address the e-mails that I didn’t get time to look at earlier and even more that have come in since. I also need to finalise a presentation with the Probate team and sign off some artwork for our Property team.

Then I head home to Bertie (3) and Lexie (1) and we usually head out for a walk as a family along the beach with our little cockerpoo Luna before my husband and I read them a bedtime story. Then I have to jump back into my heels and head to a

client networking event at 7.00 p.m. I will be in bed between 10-11.00 p.m. but asleep before my head touches the pillow!

Question: How did you become Head of Marketing Answer: I previously worked as a Marketing & Communications Manager and more recently Business Development Manager in a local finance firm after arriving in Jersey in 2003 from a large Advertising/ Marketing agency in London. My journey has also required a number of professional qualifications and I have a degree from Bristol University and a Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification. Continual Professional Development is really important to me so I have also completed an MBA with Southampton University.

Question: What advice would you give someone, either just starting their career or midway through their career, who wants to be in Marketing? Answer: It is great fun but hard work. I am super organised so I thrive on managing many things at once but you need to be prepared to juggle lots of things and not go too crazy.

I

think a positive personality and a 'can do' attitude is also key. Additionally, not everyone understands marketing so you need to be a strong individual to get your voice heard. If you can get lots of work experience whilst studying this will really help as marketing roles do not come up very often.
