A DAY IN THE LIFE OF...
CHAMBERS ACCOUNTING LIMITED
Let me start by saying that no day for me is ever the same. Working for myself as an accountant and tax adviser, my clients represent a broad spectrum of Jersey’s small business community each with their own accounting needs and tax planning arrangements. Each of them knows that small business administration in Jersey is not as easy as it should be, and they often need an accountant’s guidance and advice which is freely available within their annual fixed price agreement.
So, what happened yesterday? Up early, as usual, since it is important to maintain an office- like discipline when working from home. Switch on my PC, check that the overnight back-up ran successfully, and open my e-mails. Delete the junk and spam, no different to anyone else I suppose. Today I am left with half a dozen real messages, all of which I decide need dealing with by lunchtime and which will take up much of the morning until the post arrives. So:
Sign in to client’s bank account, as his business finance manager, and arrange payment of a bill just received. Update his bookkeeping records for this and other transactions he has made and reconcile the bank account. His business finances are maintained in real time and are a vast improvement to the mess they were in before we set up our current arrangements for his business administration.
