Therapy and why your pet might need it.

Animal therapy is a way to ensure that our pets are well balanced and happy throughout their lives.

By JULIE SKELLEY, ANIMAL WELLNESS PRACTITIONER

Our pets can become easily unbalanced due to factors inside and outside of the home and this is when problems may start to occur. We can help to alleviate any unnecessary stress and anxiety by ensuring that we are aware of what is going on within their surroundings. Not only that but it is vital that we watch what energy we ourselves are emitting. If we are stressed and anxious then this is what our pets will pick up on. It makes sense doesn’t it?

We should also be mindful of how we are treating them. Are we treating them as though they were human? Pets can sometimes become the substitute for a child and they are treated as such. It might make you feel good but it may not be making your pet feel balanced.

Another part to Animal Therapy is helping your dog know its place within the pack. Even if it is just the two of you in the home, you should try at all times to be the pack leader. It can take time but start by being confident, assertive and calm - always a good start.

Believe and trust in your animal as they do you. They deserve to live a well- balanced and happy life. We owe them that.

To maintain a balanced and happy life for all your animals give them Reiki Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘universal life energy’ and it's also a word used to describe a system of natural healing. We live in a world full of energy that nourishes and maintains all living things so, when your pets life energy is high, they are more likely to be healthy, well balanced and more relaxed and less likely to get sick. it is low, they’ll often be more easily affected by stress and less resistant to illness. To be healthy, your pets like us, need to be in balance on all levels.

Animals, especially cats, are naturally receptive to the Reiki energy and tend to gravitate towards it willingly. However some pets may initially prefer to experience Reiki from a distance, rather than having hands directly on them. Remaining respectful of their space is therefore vital.

Reiki sessions are varied and can be anything from 30 minutes up to an hour. The frequency of sessions is tailored to your pet’s individual needs. Distance healing can also be given.

Reiki can be used alongside veterinary care but not to replace it. We work strictly within the Veterinary Surgery Act of 1966.
