Bobbejaanland’s immersive tunnel The Forbidden Caves,

Bobbejaanland's latest new attraction and the first immersive tunnel in the Benelux, is now open. The €5 million ($5.5m) media- based experience from Holovis and partners

features a storyline inspired by the rainforests of

Khyonesia in South-East Asia and he search for hidden crystals

he attraction has powerful theming,” notes Bobbejaanland manager and one-time Disney man Roland Kleve. “From the moment they join the queue,

visitors are immersed in the world of Jasper DuBois, the main character in The Forbidden Caves.” Bobbejaanland guests got their first chance to experience

The Forbidden Caves at the park in Lichtaart, Belgium, on May 13. The attraction comprises a 1,400 square-metre indoor area combined with a 2,500 sq m outdoor area. Although the storyline is different, the basic attraction concept is the same as The Lost Temple as Movie Park Germany, a sister Parques Reunidos property. As on that ride, scenery was by Rocas & Design, and storytelling, design and media production provided by Super 78 of California. The ride system on this occasion, however, was from the British company Holovis Attractions, which previously provided some of the media content/AV for an immersive tunnel attraction at Cincecitta World in Rome. On The Forbidden Caves, visitors – let’s call then

explorers – are taken on an exciting underground caving expedition led by Jasper DuBois, keen to accomplish a mission his grandfather attempted many years ago. This intricate network of caves and passageways, so the story goes, contain crystals with a powerful, supernatural energy that not only exuded heat and light, but also made plants

and animals grow at an amazing rate into giant creatures and monsters.

A legend lives Whereas most people would dismiss the story as just an ancient legend, DuBois is convinced. He digs for evidence, against the wishes of King Morowath, and sets up Amazing Cave Tours as an alibi for his endeavours. Totally out of the blue, just as a new group of “tourists” (Bobbejaanland guests) is ready for an expedition, DuBois finds the passageway to the cave where the crystals are hidden as he see a purple glow shining between the rocks. At last – proof that the myth and his grandfather's story

were right. But could the story about gigantic monsters be true too? Those that step inside The Forbidden Caves will find out soon enough as the pass through the pre-show area, in which lice actors explain the mission before them, and into the 60 person capacity (2 x 30-seater) expedition vehicles. As the vehicle moves into the show area, a total of seven

projectors bring the action to life on a U-shaped screen designed to wrap around the riders, completely immersing their peripheral vision so putting them at the heart of the story. This, the highlight of the ride. last two minutes, but
