Star Wars meets Madame Tussauds

“For us, the expectations on this project were The new attraction is rich in photo opprtunities

As if there weren’t already enough photo opportunities at Madame Tussauds, the original London outlet has just added a new exhibit that is sure to be a winner with sci-fi fans. Opened on May 16, the new Star Wars

experience invites guests to come face-to-face with some of the biggest heroes and villains from the massive movie franchise as they step inside 11 atmospheric scenes covering a galaxy of locations, including the swamps of Dagobah, Jabba the Hutt’s Throne Room and the flight deck of the Millennium Falcon (as seen above). The new feature represents a significant expansion of

the London tourist hot spot and was created in close collaboration with Lucasfilm and Disney, which now owns the Star Wars brand. The incredibly lifelike wax figures, sculpted in the workshops of Merlin Magic Making, appear inside authentic themed sets created by P&P Projects, a long time Merlin/Tussauds partner.

huge,” says P&P marketing manager, Ifat Caspi. “Not only did we have to satisfy Merlin but also Lucasfilm, Disney and several generations of Star Wars fans – all of who have very critical eyes!” “The Star Wars films are so loved, and fans so passionate,” adds Madame Tussauds London general manager Ben Sweet. “We were given rare access to the Star Wars archives at Skywalker Ranch in California, which was invaluable, and the artistic team poured over stills and footage day and night to ensure the likenesses of our wax stars are spot on and the sets as reminiscent of the actual film scenes as possible.” In the new experience fans can wield a lightsaber

with Anakin Skywalker amidst the lava of Mustafar; feel the Force alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui- Gon Jinn when they take on Darth Maul on Naboo; join the captive Princess Leia and the evil Jabba the Hutt in his Throne Room; hang out with Han Solo in the legendary cantina, before stepping onto the Millennium Falcon with the Wookiee warrior, Chewbacca; and witness the ultimate battle as father and son, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, embark on their final duel (as below). A similar, but smaller-scale experience has also opened at Madame Tussauds Berlin, featuring some of the same Star Wars characters, but in different specially recreated scenes. Entry to Star Wars at Madame Tussauds London is included in the main ticket price which starts from £24.75 for adults and £21.60 for children when booked online.

South Korea’s AmorePacific Beautiful Life Center is credited with reinventing the factory tour/brand centre with its Thea Award-winning Story Garden. This interactive multimedia experience by BRC Imagination Arts is also multi-sensory, engaging sight, sound and touch. AmorePacific was founded in 1945 in the kitchen of the founder’s mother, and has grown to become a global corporation with 30 cosmetics, personal care and health care brands. Now, across 10 scenes the Story Garden traces this story and reflects the company’s commitment to nature and plant-based ingredients. BRC hired Electrosonic to do the initial

audiovisual design and provide AV support for facility on the cosmetic company’s campus in Osan, which features two theatre spaces, four galleries with video elements and background music, and 10 with background music only. Seven Operator Control Consoles (OCCs) are distributed throughout the exhibit for tour guides to operate as they lead visitors through the experience. The Gift of Beauty gallery – seen above – is outfitted with a 270º projection system, which envelopes visitors on three sides with imagery. Smart Monkeys performed the on-site show control programming, supervised by Electrosonic. For the full kit list used throughout the attraction see bit.ly/1M3Qses
