Adventureland, Long Island, New York, has introduced Turbulence, a
custom spinning coaster by Mack Rides. The $5 (€4.6m) million attraction features a compact layout that the German manufacturer says adds to the thrill as the
train navigates multiple near misses, twists and
turns. Strap yourself in for the ride!

urbulence opened on May 22, just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Featuring 382m (1,253 ft) of twisting green track on yellow supports, it
is actually the first Mack coaster for the park, which has had a total eight rollercoasters in its lifetime, but currently just two. While the Ladybug Coaster takes care of the kids, Turbulence keeps the thrill seekers happy and becomes the park’s new signature ride. "We set out to reward ourselves and Long Island with a
new rollercoaster,” explains manager Steven Gentile. “This spinning coaster from Mack Rides has changed the landscape of our entire park and I truly feel that we have delivered nothing short of a gem of an attraction." “For the park it is a great addition,” adds Mack Rides’ Maximilian Röser. “Each and every ride is different and unpredictable due to the free spinning cars, so this should
result in a lot of repeat rides. The fact that we have a back- to-back seating and two trains consisting of three cars each brings a lot of interactivity to the ride. The riders will see each other while going around and also see how the others are reacting to the turns and twists. This is really a fun part while riding our spinning coaster.” The ride occupies a footprint of just 22 x 53m (73 x
174ft), a space dictated by removal of the Hurricane coaster by SDC. Turbulence has a highest point of just over 52ft (16.7m), with a 52° first drop. During the ride, passengers reach a top speed of 36 mph, or 58km/h and experience maximum g-forces of 3.8G. According to Röser it is those tight bends and elements such as 80° banking that make the ride so thrilling. “We managed to build some very dynamic coaster elements into quite a little space,” he says. “You have a lot of near miss
