Family affair Boardwalk announces promotions
The family-owned business behind Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk has made several management changes. Charles Canfield will remain as CEO and chairman of
the board at the Santa Cruz Seaside Company, which has operated the California park since 1915, but will turn over the day-to-day management and role of president to his grandnephew, Karl Rice. Previously vice-president of finance, Rice also assume the role of chief financial officer. Former director of operations Omid Aminifard, with the
company since 2000, becomes the new vice-president of Boardwalk operations. Tom Canfield (Charles’ son, and formerly vice-president of operations) assumes a broader leadership role as executive vice-president. He will help oversee the development of any major new rides and infrastructure projects and assume responsibility for the Boardwalk Bowl, Sea & Sand Inn and Carousel Beach Inn. He will also continue to represent the Boardwalk in trade associations including IAAPA, the California Amusement Park Association (CAPA) and the association of family owned and managed parks (FOAM). Finally, Merry Crowen, vice-president of hospitality and lodging, is set to retire this month after 33 years with the
company. Charles Canfield served as president of the Santa Cruz Seaside Company since 1984, a role he assumed from his father Laurence Canfield who was president from 1952-1984. Rice meanwhile becomes the seventh president in the Santa Cruz Seaside Company’s 100-year history.

WhiteWater’s first fusion waterslide opens in Europe
How’s this for a spectacular setting? WhiteWater has delivered its first fusion waterslide in Europe to Aquaparc, Switzerland. The project posed the challenge of fitting a large amount of new fibreglass into a tangle of existing waterslide flumes at the park in Le Bouveret, overlooking Lake Geneva and the mouth of the Rhone. The 169m-long (554ft) Houla Hoop attraction, which combines a Constrictor and a Rattler for the first time, had to be carefully positioned. The result is a ride experience that fuses the thrills of the Constrictor’s high banking turns with the Rattler‘s unexpectedly fast near vertical oscillations, shaking guests up around every corner. Aquaparc is owned and
managed by the French-based Looping group, which operates eight leisure parks and waterparks in France, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Aquaparc is a family facility that offers entertainment all year round with a perfectly heated indoor waterpark in addition to its outdoor activity pool, waterslides and play structure.
